About this wine

Rich in aromatics, with clean fruit flavors and gorgeous floral notes, this Direct Import IGP Viognier is a charmer! We tasted it on a recent trip to France, and it’s our new favorite. Produced by a cooperative that counts 50 passionate winemakers as owners, this is a wine to make you think summer’s arrived early.

Seductive, with exotic spice, honeysuckle, and stone fruit aromas, the palate is lively with rich texture and pleasing roundness along with intense and clean citrus, stone fruit, and appetizing acidity. Produced in a fruit-forward accessible style, this 2014 Viognier won a silver medal at the prestigious Concours General tasting in Paris.

Located on its Mediterranean coast, France’s Gard region sits at the confluence of Provence, the Languedoc, and the Rhone Valley. Rocca Maura takes its name from the Provencal words for “black rock,” a reference to the place on which Languedoc-Roussillon’s most impressive castle was built hundreds of years ago. The winery winemakers pride themselves on being hands on, working their terraced vineyards as sustainably as possible.

Ranked a notch above the country’s Vin de France wine category, the IGP classification for wines with a protected geographical origin, offers both great values and is on the rise in terms of quality and popularity.

The 2014 Viognier from Rocca Maura lives up the great reputation this winery has earned with our company over the years.  Another exceptional wine at entry level pricing, the Viognier presents with a sweet nose of honeysuckle, white peach, and apple blossom.  The palate is equally lush and elegant with notes of kumquat, green apple and lemon honey.  A refreshing wine to enjoy now through 2018. - DZ Apr 2016
